Following Sunday River's season opening announcement on Wednesday, Killington responded on Thursday by stating, "[w]inter starts when we say so."

Killington conducted snowmaking tests on Thursday and plans to open for its season pass holders on Sunday, October 18. The area is expected to open to the public on Monday, October 19. In recent years, opening day skiing is served by the North Ridge Triple, accessed by the K1 gondola and Peak Walkway.

Sunday's planned opening will be Killington's fourth October debut in the past five years and its earliest since 2012, when lifts started spinning on October 13. The earliest recorded lift served opening at Killington was October 1, which occurred three times during the 1990s.
