Hermon Mountain

Hermon Mountain has been sold to a group of local investors, rescuing the small ski area from near-closure.

Hermon Mountain Holdings, LLC acquired the metro-Bangor ski area from Bill and Marlene Whitcomb on April 29, 2026. A $1.24 million mortgage was issued by Acadia Federal Credit Union.

The new company's ownership includes Timothy and Amy McClary and David and Casee Hart.

In a recent Facebook post, the ownership announced, "When we reopen, the goal is simple. We are committed to preserving the welcoming, family friendly atmosphere the community knows and loves. We want to be a place where you can grab a pizza, hang out, play some games, catch trivia or a comedy show, and just relax after a long week with friends and family."

After three decades of ownership, the Whitcombs placed the ski area on the market in 2022, announcing its imminent closure in the fall of 2025 if a transaction was not completed. The new ownership group noted, "This mountain means a lot to a lot of people, and we’re incredibly grateful not just for what they created, but for the time, support, and guidance they gave us throughout this process and they continue to provide us with."

The ski area dates back to the mid-1960s, when it opened with rope tow service. A T-Bar was installed in 1966, followed by a chairlift in 1998. The area advertises a 350 foot vertical drop and typically has a mid-December to late-March ski season.
