After three years on the market, the ownership of Hermon Mountain ski area has announced its imminent closure.
In an October 13 Facebook post, Hermon Mountain announced, "it is with much thought and heavy hearts that we are announcing that this will be our last year owning/running the ski area. It has been for sale for quite some time. We are still hopeful that someone will be able to purchase it and keep it a ski area before the end of this coming season but if not we will be closing it down and looking for alternatives to selling it, i.e. house lots or something like that."
After over three decades of ownership, the Bill and Marlene Whitcomb placed the 67.5 acre area on the market in May 2022 for $5 million. The ski area dates back to the mid-1960s, when it opened with rope tow service. A T-Bar was installed in 1966, followed by a chairlift in 1998. The area advertises a 350 foot vertical drop and typically has a mid-December to late-March ski season.
The area suffered a pumphouse fire early last season, resulting in a rebuild of the structure.
