The ridge being eyed for expansion
A decade after being rescued from possible closure, Lost Valley is eyeing a second terrain and lift expansion.
According to a Sun Journal article last month, owner Scott Shanaman is considering adding lifts and trails on the opposite side of the valley. Lost Valley Holdings Inc. owns much of the western face of the ridge, as well as some frontage on West Auburn Road near Lake Auburn on the east side.
The ridge has a summit elevation of 505 feet, which is 23 feet higher than the top of the present day ski area. A bridge would be needed to access the property on the other side Lapham Brook. Parking would also be expanded. Lost Valley currently has a 1986 Borvig Triple in storage from Spruce Peak at Sunday River.
Located in Auburn, Maine, 240 vertical foot ski area has been in operation since the 1961-62 season. In January 2025, Lost Valley commissioned its first new chairlift installation in more than 50 years, when it opened a refurbished Hall double serving intermediate and expert terrain on the south end of the ski area. Lost Valley has reportedly more than doubled its skier visits in the past decade.
