Lift projects are nearing completion in New England as ski season rapidly approaches. Though Alterra, Boyne, and Vail are not installing any new lifts, independent and locally-operated areas in four New England states have construction in progress.
Killington
The haul rope has been spliced for Killington's new Superstar chairlift. The new Doppelmayr six pack replaces an aging Yan-Poma quad.
Ski Butternut
The base terminal is now being constructed for Jane's Quad. The SkyTrac fixed grip quad replaces the 1975 Overbrook Thiokol triple.
Wachusett
Base terminal construction is also underway at Wachusett with the installation of Massachusetts' second six-person chairlift. The new Doppelmayr replaces a 1994 quad.
Bretton Woods
Bretton Woods new BEQII high speed quad is largely complete. Replacing a 1989 Doppelmayr, the new Leitner Poma has a lower top terminal for easier dismount for beginners.
Meanwhile, removal of the 1983 Fabyan's Triple is complete. Staff would not confirm where the lift is going, only indicating that it is being shipped to another ski area. Bretton Woods Director of Ski Operations Chris Ellms previously served as general manager at Whaleback, which recently announced the closure of its aging double chairlift.
Pats Peak
Construction continues at Pats Peak for its new Hurricane Quad. Constructed with components of the Lake Compounce chairlift, the quad will feature a new SkyTrac base terminal, which starts at a reconfigured, lower base area.
Waterville Valley
Concrete work continues for Waterville Valley's new MND T-Bar. Base terminal and tower footings are complete, with work focusing on the top terminal and new crossover to the World Cup trail. The World Cup T-Bar was removed this spring, along with the Exhibition Poma in September.
