New England has a new ski area this winter, as the Town of Millinocket completed its rope tow project.

Located adjacent to Stearns High School, the project was a multi-year undertaking. Grants were provided by Maine WinterKids, the American Rescue Plan Act, and Katahdin Area Trails. The rope tow climbs about 60 vertical feet, serving three trails on weekend afternoons.

The site was previously home to a small rope tow operation in the early 1950s.

Millinocket is the first new ski area to debut in Maine since 2022, when Quarry Road opened in Waterville.
