A three month lift removal project has recently wrapped out at Ascutney Mountain in Vermont, leaving only the Sunrise double chairlift in place. As reported on NewEnglandSkiHistory.com in June, the triple chairlifts were purchased from MFW Associates by Pats Peak ski area. The final stage of the take down took place in late August via helicopter.

The financially troubled Ascutney Mountain ski area last operated amidst foreclosure proceedings during the 2009-10 season. Crotched Mountain purchased and removed the summit high speed quad in 2012, leaving the ski area with three triple chairlifts and one double chairlift. Dan Purjes' MFW Associates assumed ownership at a November 2013 auction. While MFW had hoped to reopen the ski area, it was unable to find a financially viable way. In May of 2014, removal of the triple chairlifts commenced.

It is rumored that one or more of the triple chairlifts could eventually be installed at Pats Peak, while one or more may be relocated to other ski areas.

There are no known plans for lift served skiing at Ascutney moving forward. The ski area tract may be preserved for mountain biking and other outdoor activities.
